How Does Scoring Work?

GettingStarted How Does Scoring Work?

As of early 2025, UDOIT offers a customizable scoring system to help users better understand and improve the accessibility of their course. Users will see a Scorecard on their UDOIT Home Page, and admins will have access to scores at the account and subaccount levels.

Scoring Overview

Course Accessibility Score of 83%UDOIT checks your Canvas content and files for several accessibility issues (see: What Does UDOIT Look For?), and assigns them varying severity levels behind the scenes, based on their impact to users. Issues UDOIT finds are then grouped logically into sets of related issues, called "Issue Types."

The Scorecard is a customizable rubric that sorts these Issue Types into three categories of impact (High, Medium, and Low), provides a percentage score for each Impact Category (based on the severity of issues within), and calculates them with varying weights (according to their impact) to return an overall Course Accessibility Score

Issue Types

Issue Types are logical groupings of accessibility issues that help users identify areas in need of improvement, as well as make it easier for users to remediate related issues quickly. These are typically related to a particular type of content, like images, links, or tables.

As an example, the "Links" Issue Type includes the following issues:

  • Adjacent Links Found
  • Alt Text For Images Within Links Should Not Be Empty
  • Links Should Contain Text
  • Link Has Nondescript Text

For each Issue Type on the Scorecard, UDOIT will provide a link that launches a streamlined method of working through remediating any link-related issues it finds, an Issue Count stating how many issues have been found, and a Score for all associated issues.

Impact Categories

These Issue Type groups are then sorted into Impact Categories (High, Medium, Low), based on how significantly they affect the user experience.

Each Impact Category will display its own accessibility Score, as well as the Weight it holds in the overall Course Accessibility Score.

Scorecard Settings

We have provided a thoughtful assignment of impact levels and weighted scoring as the default for the UDOIT Scorecard.

However, to ensure UDOIT meets the diverse needs of individual institutions, we also allow UDOIT admins to customize scoring for their institution in the following ways:

  • move Issue Types between Impact Categories
  • adjust the weighting of each category (provided the categories add up to 100%)

These adjustments can be made in the UDOIT Admin Settings area.

Calculations

UDOIT arrives at its final course score after considering the impact of each issue, and the weighting of each impact category. To learn more, see:
