This update includes an update to the colors used for active accordion headings as well as a few other tweaks.

DesignPLUS Next Generation Update

We finished our first group of Alpha testers. We are working our way through their feedback to determine what adjustments need to be made. After we get through their feedback, we will determine if we will do another Alpha run.

In addition to what might come up as we review feedback from our Alpha testers, we still have quite a bit to do before we are ready for Beta testing:

Updated or Modified Features

Hidden Gem Tweaks

Course Navigation Button

This gem has been updated so that the navigation button does not pick up spacing issues from different themes if added inside the Design Tools Wrapper.

Partial Progress Bar

The hover state for the partial progress bar has been adjusted to make it different from the active state

Solid Hover

Outline Hover

Large Link Grid

The Large Link Grid gem has been adjusted so that on screens smaller than 550px, the links will fill the width of the screen rather than being squished and causing longer words to break in the middle.

Old Layout

Two columns on small screen

New Layout

1 column on small screen

 Alert Paragraph Snippet Links

When adding one of the Alert Paragraph HTML Snippets, a link added to the snippet would need the color to be manually adjusted for appropriate contrast. Those snippets have been updated so links are automatically white.

Each of the following has a link inside that will be white once this update takes place on April 1.

Bug Fixes

New Discussion Layout

Canvas' new discussion layout caused a display issue when the Course Navigation Hidden Gem was used outside the Design Tools Wrapper. The code has been adjusted to resolve that issue.

iframe Tool Not Showing

An adjustment was made to the iframe tool to fix an issue when the tool didn't show up when an existing iframe was deleted using the Canvas editor and a new iframe was inserted.

Additional Tweaks to Active Accordion Colors Fixed: 3/18/2022

Additional tweaks were made to the active accordion colors for institutions installed prior to 2018 that do not have Cidi Labs color variables defined. The active accordion color was switched from using the Canvas primary color to using the Canvas primary button colors so that an appropriate text color is also provided.

If you want to customize these colors at the institution level, let us know and we can send some CSS that you can adjust and upload to your Canvas instance.

Upcoming Change to Quick Checks

It has been brought to our attention that navigating a Quick Check using only your keyboard does not allow students to think through the questions before they are shown the response. Since this makes that experience less usable for those students, we will be making a change that will be available in the May 2022 Release.

Here's the plan

  • We will add a "Check Answer" button at the bottom of each Quick Check
  • This will automatically be added to Quick Checks that have already been created
  • When you edit a page with an existing Quick Check (and for future Quick Checks) we will add the button into the content so you have the ability to customize the text and style of the button
  • The correct answer will also be able to be shown using the space or enter keys when one of the answers has keyboard focus.

Example of what this will probably look like:

At the moment, this example still functions the same but will give you a visual idea of what the button will look like:
